To boost overall team morale it is very important that employers are involved in the process. Studies have shown that employee morale is tied directly to productivity and according to a recent study of 3,000 participants in 79 countries, “The happiest employees are 180% more energized than their less content colleagues, 108% more engaged, and 50% more motivated.” Not to mention they are 50% more productive! Exact Staff has put together some tips to help your organization boost overall employee morale.

    Recognize Successes.
Everyone wants to be rewarded for their hard work. Focusing on the positive and recognizing successes in the workplace shows employees that their work isn’t going unnoticed. A simple compliment or thank you goes a long way.

    Provide Employee Perks.
These perks can include free lunches now and then, casual Fridays, or even gift certificates. You could even host a social event such as an office picnic for employees and their families.

    Utilize Employee Surveys.
It’s important to let your employees know that their feedback is valued. By using surveys, you show your employees you’re dedicated to improving work conditions and value their opinion.

Keep the Lines of Communication Open.
This is especially necessary between employees and upper management. This helps make employees feel comfortable enough to voice their opinions and make suggestions.  Make sure to listen to your employees and hear their concerns, and do your best to address them promptly.

Make Time for Team Bonding and make it FUN.
Sometimes you just need to interact outside of the office. Employers should task their team leaders with regularly scheduling time for out-of-office team bonding. Pick something fun that everyone can be involved with. Whether it’s as active as an evening at the bowling lanes, or as casual as going out to lunch, time outside the office can help boost morale within the office.

Job Hunting Takes Patience and Persistence

As you find yourself looking for a new job, in a turbulent job market nonetheless, you start off full of optimism and at full speed. Unfortunately, as time goes on, you become a little less optimistic and finding your ideal position seems out of reach. It’s at this moment when both patience and persistence are key to your success.

So what do you need to do to ensure you succeed? For starters, organization is key. To be successful, you need to be prepared. If you don’t currently have a job, job searching should be your full-time job. Dedicate your day to finding a job by creating a schedule and sticking to it. Items on your schedule should include researching companies, applying to openings, attending networking events, and writing cover and follow-up letters. For example, to break things up a bit, spend your morning researching companies and the afternoon writing cover letters.

As you may know, job searching can be tedious, so utilize the latest technology to find potential leads. Many companies are using social media, so make use of Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook.  Staying connected in your industry is important. Expand your network and market yourself to employers. Once your network is built, join relevant industry groups and add to conversations. Read as many articles as possible and learn as much as you can. You want your contacts to know you are knowledgeable in your field, and that is a great way to start. Don’t rush; take it one contact at a time, and watch your network build gradually

Keep track of every application and make sure to follow up. Stand out from the competition by following up with the hiring manager or appropriate contact after submitting your resume. The art of the handwritten note is not lost either. One day after a job interview, write and send a handwritten note as a thank you for their time. It really does make the difference when the employer is narrowing down between candidates.

Remember to stay positive and determined throughout the job search. If you’re looking for more tips on coping with the job search blues, contact one of our staffers today! At Exact Staff we are here to help you with any job search questions you may have.

Job Shadowing to Develop a Better Relationship with Coworkers

Do you ever wonder what some of your coworkers are doing all day? I’m sure many of you do and most likely they wonder the same thing about you. It’s easy to get lost in the day-to-day tasks and focus only on your to-do list. But, in order to develop better office relationships, consider job shadowing. Job shadowing is following and observing a colleague’s entire workday, from start to finish. Think of it as stepping inside your colleague’s shoes for the day.

When job shadowing, aim to shadow someone outside of your department; who you may never work with. The more insight you gain on other departments, the more valuable you will become to the organization. Before you start, clear the idea with your supervisor. Once you get the OK, ask for suggestions on who would be a good candidate to shadow. When your list is narrowed down, ask that particular person and clear it with their supervisor as well. It may be hard to sell everyone at first, but reassure them of the benefits. Some benefits of job shadowing include:

  • Build informal employee relationships
  • Create knowledge and understanding between company functions and departments
  • Give employees the opportunity to interact with employees that may never work with on a regular basis
  • Eliminate stereotypes of other departments
  • Enhance company-wide team building
  • Help gain respect of other divisions within the company

To make job shadowing effective, you need to be engaged throughout the process. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Ask your coworker:

  • How did you come to work in this field?
  • What are your duties and responsibilities?
  • What are the pros and cons of your position?
  • What qualifications are needed for your position?
  • How many people work in your department?

Remember, job shadowing is about both you and your colleague. You want to learn about what their job entails, and they want to show you the scope of their work. It’s important to be genuinely interested and willing to learn.
